  • Hello all.

Welcome to my anal annual blog.  It seems it takes the birth of a son or change of jobs to inspire me to blog.

This time it is a change of job.  It dosen't seem like very long since I was blogging to tell people I had moved to McCues.   Well since the 15th January this year I have taken on a new role.  I am now Operations Manager for Sliderobes.  www.sliderobes.com

I have been settling in well and know that this has been a very good move.  We have 20 factory showcentres across the UK and Ireland with aggressive expansion plans over the next 30 months.

My role is really varied and carries responsibility for the operations across the group.  It is an unusual role for me as it is not a customer facing role for the first time in my working life.  Also it is not really a line management role as we are predominantly a franchise organisation.

My main functions are developing processes and best practise and introducing them across the network, monitoring compliance and result and running a business support team from head office.  I also head up new product development, IT strategy, supplier management, quality management and anything else the directors want to happen but don't have time to do themselves.

    Anyway, enough work.

Heather and Harrison and both well and they both know their alphabet, shapes and colours very well.

Blueberry muffins from Starbucks are a current favorite of Harrisons.  I am sure they are kind of Healthy???

I may blog a little bit more frequently as I have a little more free time during the day.

Happy Valentines Day by the way.

  • Have you ever noticed the Xanga proposed questions to prompt users opinions?

1 of the most recent was

If you had one minute with President Bush, what would you tell him?

The opportunity to have your say to political leaders seems to be more attractive than the opportunity to hear what they have to say.

Last year I had the opportunity to hear David Cameron MP, leader of the Conservative Party deliver his vision for the future of the UK to a group of business leaders.  On a whole he was received very well and his message was considered to be very positive for the business community.

I however found myself a little disappointed.  His views on family life and the character of a nation are to be commended, his delivery was suitably eloquent if a little lacking in mettle and he is clearly an intelligent and ambitious leader.

It took a while for me to realise why I found the message disappointing as I largely agreed with the content.

    The reason.....?

As Christians when we settle to hear someone speak, we expect to receive substance from the living, powerful, life changing Word of God.  We expect to hear directly from Almighty God.  Nothing else quite compares.

    This begs the questions

If you had one minute with Jesus what would you tell Him?

If you had one request of Jesus what would it be?

    Or more accurately.....

You do have a minute with Jesus what are you going to tell Him?

You do have a request of Jesus what is it?

"One thing I ask of the LORD,
           this is what I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the LORD
all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD
and to seek him in his temple."

Jars of Clay - Redemption Songs

Well its time I started blogging again. I have been really enjoying listening to Jars of Clays album of old covers, particularly this song.  I have been trying to find a question in my life that cannot be answered with the phrase "Jesus I lift my eyes, to Thee I lift my eyes"

    I haven't found one yet....

  • Harrison Samuel Kirk has arrived!!!!!!!!!! via C-section, after two long days of induction and labour, at 12.22 am on Saturday 22nd April.

He was 7lbs 14oz and has a little blond hair.  He is doing really well and is incredibly settled.  He has yet to cry (15 hours) and is happy and content to be awake or asleep.  He is feeding well and is as good looking as we all expected !!!!!

Heather is doing really well. She had a very difficult labour and couldn't be given an epidural due to high white blood cell count but she battled through until the doctors realised that there was absolutely no way Harrison was going to come out.

Heather was able to be conscious for the section, and I got the joy of being able to watch him come out and the first to identify the sex.

Heather and Harrison are going to be in hospital for a few days while Heather recovers from the surgery.

Sorry no pics but we will post a protected blog or photo album over the next few days.

Heather asked me to blog to thank you all for your prayers.

    So.... Thank you....

    Jonny...... ( who's the daddy?)

  • 31 Then you will remember your evil ways and wicked deeds, and you will loathe yourselves for your sins and detestable practices. 32 I want you to know that I am not doing this for your sake, declares the Sovereign LORD. Be ashamed and disgraced for your conduct, O house of Israel!

EZE 36:33 " `This is what the Sovereign LORD says: On the day I cleanse you from all your sins, I will resettle your towns, and the ruins will be rebuilt. 34 The desolate land will be cultivated instead of lying desolate in the sight of all who pass through it. 35 They will say, "This land that was laid waste has become like the garden of Eden; the cities that were lying in ruins, desolate and destroyed, are now fortified and inhabited."

I find that there are lots of prayers just waiting to burst out of this passage so for brevity sake i'm gonna go with a list of prayers.

    • Give me a right understanding of my sin...may i know that from which i am free.... may i really know that sin drives me from YOU...be glorified in me.  Be magnified in me my God... Today, tomorrow, in work, at home, online, on paper, in person, on the phone.... Jesus be honoured in me

    • Thank you for cleansing, may i know always that cleansing is a beginning... it is the pathway to holiness.  You cleanse not that we might be clean, but that our cleanliness allow intimacy with You.  We are cleansed to abide, to dwell in You existing as a holy people belonging to God, a display of His splendour. We are cleansed to restore the God honouring order of things..

    • Cleansing leads to rebuilding and replanting and the glorification of God in front of all who pass by.   Father may I be a city with many passing through.  May I not erect a DIVERSION sign, sending others away instead teach me to be a gateway and a path along which people learn to stand in awe of God.

  • Still in Ezekial 36

28 You will live in the land I gave your forefathers; you will be my people, and I will be your God. 29 I will save you from all your uncleanness. I will call for the grain and make it plentiful and will not bring famine upon you. 30 I will increase the fruit of the trees and the crops of the field, so that you will no longer suffer disgrace among the nations because of famine.

    You will live

    You will be my people

    I will be your God

I will save you from all your uncleanness

I will call for the grain

I will not bring famine upon you

    I will increase the fruit

You will no longer suffer disgrace

The will of God is awesome, what God wills,  is.....

I love the phrase "I will call for grain"

...... I imagine that when God calls for grain..... the grain shows up.....!!

  • 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.

    Todays prayer?

Father, put Your Spirit in me, give me insight, understanding, boldness and courage to follow all Your decrees.   Be honoured in my life today.

Give me a watchful Spirit to CAREFULLY keep Your Laws.

TAKE CARE to obey God today, you won't obey by accident, TAKE CARE.

  • Last night during a prayer time at church Trev (yes he's the Sith lord who once was my paduan learner) read a passage from Ezekial 36.  I just wanted to share a little from the chapter

I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh

I am thankful for Gods forgiveness in my life and know that I am cleansed by Him alone. Thats amazing.

I have been thinking at the moment about the heart.     Today Heather had another scan and although it was a very quick affair, you could see the detail of stripeys heart.  You could see that it had more than one chamber, its not just a blob on the screen anymore but a complex muscle.

If you compare muscle to stone there is quite a difference.  But to compare our love with Gods is even more dramatic.  We need to understand our compassion is as stone when compared to Gods, our intentions weak and unlikely compared to the strength of purpose in the heart of God.

    My Prayer for today?

"Lord give me a new heart....

    A heart of compassion

A heart of boldness and courage

    A heart after Gods own

A heart that says 'Yes Lord' with every beat"

  • The day has arrived that no-one ever thought would..

Yesterday I handed in my notice........ Yes, I am leaving Samuel Kirk Limited to start a new job on 2nd May.....

Its weird for lots of reasons...... I have been there 8 and a half years and no-one expects me to move on, especially cause it is a family business.

However over the last couple of months I have been going through a series of interviews with McCue Interior Fitout Solutions.   On Wednesday this week we agreed terms and they invited me to lead Technicasigns, a sign company they purchased a few years ago.

The role promises to be extremely challenging and I am already excited at the prospect.

Leaving Kirks will be a sad day but an exciting and necessary step if I am to move forward in the business world.

Check out the company website...... you can follow the divisions link to the Technicasigns areas of the site.

  • ISA 50:4 The Sovereign LORD has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary.

He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught. The Sovereign LORD has opened my ears, and I have not been rebellious; I have not drawn back. I offered my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard; I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting.

Because the Sovereign LORD helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore have I set my face like flint, and I know I will not be put to shame.

    I love Isaiah 50

Check out the actions of The Sovereign Lord but what I really love about this is the wonderful (apparent) logical inconsistency so often found in Pauls writing but here found in Isaiah.

For most of us being publically beaten, facially disfigured, mocked and spat upon, betrayed and left alone are all the epitome of shame and disgrace.  Add to that criminal allegations and total banruptcy with even your last belongings taken (by those who are mocking)......

But Jesus having endured all this and much more was not disgraced....

Did Jesus just have really thick skin?

Did he simply not care about what people thought of Him?

Was he emotionally disfunctional or detached?

No Jesus was not disgraced because disgraced means, "without Grace"

Persona non gratis - person without grace was the term given to the worst criminal offenders.  Those to whom no grace was to be shown...

Because the Sovereign LORD helps me, I will not be disgraced

When God helps ....... grace is......

We can face all, lose all, fail, be mocked spat upon, wrongly accused.  In short we can have nothing, but the Grace of God and we have everything.

In God every tomb has an exit as well as an entrance, there are no one way systems.

The psalmist said "The entrance of His word brings light"

later in Isaiah 50 we are told,

Let him who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the LORD and rely on his God.

God is in the help business, He is in the grace business....

It is time to "set our faces like flint and know....."
